Residents from Birch Green Care Home in Skelmersdale celebrated Burns night with a range of activities.
Burns night is a Scottish celebration taking place on January 25 each year to commemorate the life and work of poet Robert Burns.
The residents enjoyed a reading by staff members Gill and Angie, from a selection of Robert Burns’ poems. Whilst the poems were being read everyone was treated to a traditional Scottish shortbread which was washed down with a wee dram of whisky.
Memories from school were brought back for two residents, Carol and Edna, when Gill read the famous ‘A Red Rose’ poem. Enda recalled rushing home to tell her parents she had learned the most beautiful poem she had ever heard.
The infamous song, Auld Lang Syne, written in 1788, was sang by residents to finish off a great afternoon.
